Public Information Meeting

Meeting:
Was held on Oct. 27 at Jane Edwards School. There was a good turn out and SCDOT
had a number of experts present to answer questions.

Islanders checked the plans carefully and talked with SCDOT experts present.

In general the project should be positive for Edisto.
Possible points you may wish to consider raising if you write to SCDOT:
1) we suggest preserving portions of the existing causeways and bridges for public
access to the creeks for taking pictures, fishing, crabbing and shrimping.

2) we would like any mitigation funds required be directed back to Edisto through
the Edisto Island Open Land Trust or EIPA.

3) while no one wants the bridges to be excessively high, a slight increase in height above the current
height of the bridges might allow kayaks and smaller boats to pass under the new bridges.

4) if any oaks must be removed in realigning the causeways they should be replaced by
SCDOT

The three new bridges will have 2 - 12' lanes and 2 - 10' emergency
lanes which will allow for safer pedestrian and bicycle access.
